A toast to the perfect shape
The new millennium also marked a new era in the tasting and enjoyment of premium whiskies: Raymond Davidson, founder of the Glencairn Crystal Studio in East Kilbride, Scotland, and his design team developed the optimum glass for whisky - especially for single malts: the original Glencairn Glass. The first drafts had already been made years earlier, but the final and optimal shape was created 20 years ago.
And who would have thought that this bulbous glass, which is only reminiscent of a tumbler from which whisky was drunk until then because of the thick glass bottom, would bring out the aromatic complexity of the whisky so well. The properties of the Original Glencairn Glass also had a convincing effect on many juries of (design) awards. Among other things, the glass received the Queen's Award for Innovation.
For many years, the German drinking glass manufacturer Stölzle Lausitz has been the exclusive distributor of this special glass - in particular to the gastronomy and retail sectors in Germany, Austria, Switzerland (D-A-CH) and North America. Not least because of its many years of glassmaking experience in wine glasses and in the bar segment, as well as its distribution in over 120 countries around the world, Stölzle Lausitz has been chosen by the developers of the Original Glencairn Glass to offer the Glencairn Glass exclusively.
For the distinction of being allowed to continue to fulfill this task beyond the anniversary year and the trust associated with it, Stölzle Lausitz - together with all friends of single malt - makes a very special toast to this special taste experience made possible by the Original Glencairn Glass.
