Visiting: Tipsy Tiger, Switzerland, Zurich
Luca Huber created a bar hotspot in the lively cosmos of Langstrasse in Zurich: The Tipsy Tiger and the Dry Club. The bar opens up two completely different worlds to its guests that could not be more different. While the lively, sociable atmosphere on the ground floor is characterized by industrial design aesthetics, striking tiger motifs on bar stools and lamps as well as the "From the Lap to the Tap" cocktails, the Dry Club on the first floor is more demanding and more graceful-a tribute to a typical Speakeasy bar. All taste profiles, ingredients and recipes of the cocktails are carefully selected and created by Luca Huber. Everything is handmade and of high quality. Within this dual concept, pulsating energy merge with a calm, refined atmosphere into an exceptional drinking experience that unfolds in a unique environment.
What inspired you to name Tipsy Tiger?
The naming was a real challenge because we wanted to give the bar a name that remains in the memory. After a long superior, we decided on the tiger - a strong and memorable symbol. And what could be more charming than a slightly drunk tiger?
The Tipsy Tiger Bar combines a modern, yet reserved design in a fascinating way. The bar on the ground floor is rather loud and alive, while the Dry Club is rather quiet. How would you describe these two concepts?
In both concepts we try to live a modern bar culture. Even if Tipsy Tiger and the Dry Club look very different at first glance, they have more in common than you think. At the center of the two levels there is always the quality, and we consistently combine food and drink with each other to create a holistic experience.
The heart of the Tipsy Tiger forms a long, simple counter with marble plate. The special feature of the visible taps behind the bar, from which they conjure up their cocktail creations. What makes this "from the lap to the tap" cocktails so special?
The TAP system offers us an incredible number of options. We can serve cocktails that normally need a lot of time in preparation. A perfect example is our clear espresso martini. For this we distill Vodka and Cold Brew Coffee-a process that takes 2-3 hours each. In the end, the guest receives a fascinating experience that is served in just five seconds. It is always impressive, although it is now part of my everyday life.
They produce individual essences of their cocktails themselves, which shows that they bigplace value on every detail. To what extent did she influence this when choosing the glasses? Which glass from the Stölzle Lausitz Product has met your claims here?
For me, glasses play a central role in a bar - they influence the look, feel and the entire drinking experience of a cocktail. So the choice of the Kyoto series of Stölzle Lausitz obvious. The combination of elegant look and pleasant feel exactly meets my requirements and fits perfectly with the details that we strive for in our cocktails and our bar overall.
Are there certain characteristics that you pay particular attention to when it comes to glass design? What does the glasses of Stölzle Lausitz In your opinion special?
I am a bigHe fan of Japanese glasses, and my motto is: "The thinner, the better." It impresses me how Stölzle Lausitz It creates such robust glasses despite the filigree thick. This combination of elegance and feel makes the glasses special for me and underlines the quality that we strive for in our bar.
Do you see a connection between the shape and function of the glass to the drink that is served in it? Have you inspired the Kyoto glasses to create new creations?
Yes, shape and function play a crucial role in choosing the glass. When creating a new cocktail, it is always an important question in which glass we serve it. The Kyoto glasses have made their cocktails even more simpler and more elegant, so that the glass and the cocktail speak for themselves.
The cocktails that they create are characterized by special ingredients, essences and sophisticated compositions. Just like every cocktail has its own personality, every glass also has a unique character. How do the specific flavors and essences of a cocktail influence the choice of glass?
I think that the choice of the perfect glass for a cocktail is similar to interpersonal relationships - a harmony must arise. Either it fits, or it doesn't fit. That is why I often test my cocktails in different glasses to find the right thing that best brings out the aromas and essences of the cocktail.
You can tell that Tipsy Tiger is also a place of creation and innovation for them. What inspires you? How do you find the right moment to try something new?
I am often inspired by everyday things. This inspiration usually comes to the most unusual moments. It can happen that I suddenly cook a syrup or test a new drink in the middle of the night. Exactly these spontaneous moments are often the beginning of new ideas.
Which cocktail from the menu is your personal favorite cocktail and why?
My personal favorite is the Mojito. Everyone knows him, but the guests are always enthusiastic about our special implementation. Our Mojito is Crystal Clear And looks almost like water, which makes it a real back look and presents the classic cocktail in a new way.
